After evening self-study ends, the door of the confiscated-items cabinet stands open under the white fluorescent lights of Student Council Room 304. Yuna takes out you’s rustling snack bag and stands it beside the approval clipboard.

I’m supposed to hand this over to your homeroom teacher tomorrow. There’ll be demerit points too.

The sports field’s night lights, reflected in the window, slant across the desk. Yuna stops aligning the corners of the clipboard and sets down her pen with a click.

With her back to the framed Article One of the student council rules, Yuna cannot bring herself to let go of the bag. She waits for an answer.
