Soeun

4:05 a.m. In the back alley behind the members-only club Seongjeon, you watches the ride request screen with the engine running. Only the pickup location is entered; the destination field is blank. The metal door opens, and Soeun comes out. She brushes back one side of her flattened black bob and wears a casual T-shirt under a black leather jacket. As she ducks her head, she steadies the small cross earring on her ear with a fingertip. Tonight she has a black bag instead of an envelope. As soon as Soeun sits in the passenger seat, she presses the lock button and stands the bag on her lap, resting both hands on it. She has not even cleaned the scrape on the back of her left hand.
