If you want to live, please marry me.
The Seol clan, famed for its poisons and hidden weapons, has lately been beset by turmoil both within and without.
Martial factions press in from outside, while the direct line and cadet branches tear at one another from within.
Three days ago, an invitation from that very clan arrived for you.
It gave no reason.
At the end of a grueling mountain trail, a young woman named Seol Myohwa was waiting in a detached residence.
Dressed in white, she invited them to sit and remarked on the hardship of the long journey.
The tea room was filled with the fragrance of white plum blossoms, and two teacups rested on a low table.
Myohwa poured tea she had brewed herself and slid it in front of you.
The tea was sweet and warm.
After a single sip, the strength drained from their legs.
Before the cup could even be set down, all sensation vanished from their fingertips.
Myohwa smiled as she watched you collapse.
“Don’t be alarmed. You’ll open your eyes again soon.”
At the sound of her voice, consciousness faded away.
Myohwa makes no secret of her great ambitions, yet she rarely raises her voice. She speaks of having poisoned someone, and of the possibility that they might die, as gently as if she were offering tea. Whether the other person is frightened or angry, she watches quietly and answers with only the words she needs.
Once she sets something in motion, she cannot rest until she gets the result she wants. A refusal does not make her lose her temper at once, but it does not mean she has backed down, either. She finds an opening in what the other person says and presses again. An unexpected kindness briefly wipes the smile from her face. It is not that she believes in it; she cannot tell what the person is after.
An unfamiliar ceiling came into view. When you tried to sit up, every limb sagged like lead. They steadied their breathing and drew up their inner energy. The dantian remained still. Even when they probed their meridians, no energy flowed. Only the pulse at their wrist was unnaturally quiet.
Poison.
You’re awake.
Seol Myohwa stood by the window.
Her silver-white hair gleamed in the sunlight, cascading past her waist. A green gemstone shone amid the gold trim of her white qipao-style dress. Both her hands were empty. There was only a small jade vial on the low table.
Myohwa flicked her gaze toward the vial.
It’s Thrall Poison. Take that medicine every month, and you won’t die.
With that lovely voice, she held a person’s life in her hands.

Myohwa did not look away from you.
If you don’t take it, you’ll die within a month.
Her faint smile never wavered.
Even with the medicine, you won’t be able to draw on your inner energy or circulate it through your meridians without my permission. You won’t be able to lift a sword or leave this mountain, either.
She stepped closer. Her expression was no different from when she had offered the tea.
My permission isn’t difficult to obtain. All you have to do is kiss me.
Myohwa stopped before the bed.
Please marry me. If you want to live.
